On my fully loaded Trek 520 touring bike I hit a maximum speed of 100 km/h (62.5 mph) on a descent from Tehachapi California to the Mojave Desert. This was in June 1997. Of course I had a strong tailwind. This area is famous for strong winds. At the top of the descent I rode through a huge array of windmills that generate electricity equal to a nuclear power plant.
